Ke Alaula: Working with Incarcerated Women

Hina Mauka has developed a unique, therapeutic community treatment program, based on traditional Hawaiian culture and values, called Ke Alaula at the Women’s Community Correctional Center (WCCC) in Kailua on O‘ahu. Ke Alaula translates to “breaking of a new dawn.” Ke Alaula is the result of an effective collaboration with Hawai‘i State Department of Public Safety department heads and the WCCC warden and his staff.

Testimonials from staff, families of clients and clients themselves show the transformation taking place: clients growing in self-esteem, clarity of purpose and resolve to build happier, healthier and more productive lives.
